Lynx Dealer Spotlight: Washington Professional Systems

To develop a real appreciation of Washington Professional Systems (WPS), you have to rewind the clock more than six decades to 1958. That’s when Chuck and Marge Levin founded the Washington Music Center in Washington, D.C. As most people in the world of creative music are aware, Washington Music Center quickly grew to become one of the country’s most respected retailers of musical instruments and accompanying gear, and they remain as beloved today as they’ve ever been.

Like many music stores, Washington Music’s clientele had a wide range, from young kids just starting out on their first instruments to serious professional players. As time went by, a good number of professional AV integrators also starting turning to the store to procure the products they needed for larger and more complex installations of live sound venues, pro recording facilities, conference centers, churches, and more. By the time the 1970s rolled around, Washington Music Center had already begun offering small-scale integration services to various businesses and local houses of worship.

It was in 1985 that brothers Robert and Alan Levin set up a tiny office next door to the Music Center so that they could dedicate a portion of the store’s staff to help focus on larger-scale projects, thereby founding WPS. It quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality, large-scale projects such as the New Jersey State House, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, the Warner Theatre in DC, and Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, PA. By 1995, WPS had become one of the fastest growing independent dealers and AV integrators in the nation, offering the latest cutting-edge audio and video systems.
